Amazon Review Tour & Excerpt: Breathe In by Michelle Bellon

Title: Breathe In
Author: Michelle Bellon
Genre: Thriller/Suspense
Published: June 27, 2017
Publisher: Limitless Publishing

“If you like dark thrillers THIS book is right up your alley! If you've never read a Michelle Bellon book-this one is, seriously, her best book yet! I have loved them all, but this one ..WOW!” - 5 Star Amazon Review
“I couldn't set it down!!” - 5 Star Amazon review

Breathe in, breathe out. This mantra gets Tessa Benson through the day.

The man she loves walks all over her, and she just wants to get by without her heart shattering to pieces. If she could find her voice, she’d scream.

Everything changes in one night, when she’s snatched from the streets and tied to a bed, a camera set up to capture her dying moment. And the person who paid to watch her die...is still out there somewhere.

Tessa prowls dark neighborhoods in a quest for justice, but she doesn’t find the killer. Not until they strike again…in the place Tessa is least expecting, and where it hurts worst.

Warning.  This book contains some major triggers.  It contains violence, sexual assault, and scenes of PTSD.

Tessa has a complicated love life.  The man she likes, Tom, wants nothing to do with her.  The man who likes her, Gerald, she wants nothing to do with.  To unwind from her troubled life, Tessa goes out with a friend.  What started as a fun night ends up in violent despair.  Tessa is taken by two men, kidnapped and held hostage in a lone cabin.  They videotape the mental and physical torture she experiences.  Sure that she will not make it out alive, Tessa fights back and escapes.  Yet the pain of her experience lingers—she suffers from serious PTSD, often turning violent herself.  Determined to find out who orchestrated the kidnapping, Tessa and a cop Tobin, whom she begins to develop feelings for, seek out answers.

Breathe In is definitely not a novel for the faint of heart.  Tessa endures things that take her to the very brink of a dangerous edge.  It was hard to read what her kidnappers put it through.  The process of her grief and anger was realistic and heartbreaking.  The inner psychology of being the survivor of extreme abuse is well written and very emotional.  It is hard not to feel for Tessa.  And her anger?  You don’t dislike her for what she does because you sympathize and understand her pain.  The end came as a surprise, and the victory much needed.  I can’t say she that her pain was assuaged, but the cathartic revenge at the end was enough to satisfy the need for resolution.

Blindly, I run across the lot. As I round the corner, I run smack into someone as they are coming the opposite direction.

“Tessa? Are you okay?”

I glance up through the stream of tears to see a blurry image of Gerald. “No, no. I just want to go home.” I push off his chest and stumble backward, then turn and flee the opposite direction without saying a word, ignoring Gerald’s plea of confusion as the distance between us widens. I pray he won’t follow. I just want to get away from this place.

I keep running until I’m at least a few blocks away. Winded, fatigued, and little sick to my stomach, I stop. I lean against the wall of a building, taking in sharp gasps of air, and look around. Thankfully, Gerald didn’t follow. Where am I? Terin. I left Terin back at the club. I can’t go back there. I’ll have to call her and let her know I’ve gone home. She’ll be fine.

My phone? Where is my phone? It was in my handbag. I had my handbag when I left the club with Tom. Shit. It must be in his car. Fear, pain, shame, anger, guilt, all well up tight within my chest and rise until I feel as if I will go mad. I run my fingers through my hair and cry so hard I start to gag again. I want to puke. Get that man out of me. Get him out!

“Can I help you? Are you okay?”

Startled, I spin around. The man from the library is standing at the corner, maybe fifteen feet away. My crying wanes as muddled thoughts spin around in my mind, trying to make sense of it all. Why is he here? Did he follow me from the club? His brow is pinched with a look of concern. He takes a step forward. “Are you okay?”

My knees and hands are trembling violently. “I’m…I’m fine.” I drag both hands across my face, swiping away the tears.

He takes another step forward. “Are you sure? You seem upset. Are you ill?”

I take a step back. I don’t want any further interaction tonight. I’ve had more than enough. All I want to do is go home. And this guy…he seems friendly, but he freaks me out. “No, really. I’m fine. I’m just on my way home.”

Another step forward. “Do you need a ride?”

Another step back. Why won’t anyone listen to me? “No. I’m fi…”

Something is pulled over my head from behind. The world is dark and muffled. I scream. Hands go around my waist. My arms arc outward, side to side, hoping to hit anything in my path. What is happening? Fear, stark and white, drains the blood from my head to my toes. I’m dizzy.

Voices bark out sharp orders but I’m flailing about and screaming so I can’t make out what they’re saying. Another set of hands grab my legs and pull them out from under me so now I’m being carried by two men…one by my waist and the other by my legs. I writhe and twist. I have to get out of this. I need to get away. What is happening? My breath plumes in and out in short, hot gasps inside the small bag over my head. Claustrophobia flares up. A stronger wave of panic follows. I’m…going…to pass…out.

Book Review: 23:27 by H.L. Roberts

Title: 23:27
Author: H.L. Roberts

Lilith and Alec are members of a band United Misfits. Theirs was a whirlwind romance, not too popular with the music executive high ups or, apparently, many of their fans. The novel begins with a depressed Lilith livestreaming to her fans, telling them about the anger and pain she still feels over her and Alec’s breakup. The livestream confession takes a terrifying turn when it is revealed that Lilith plans to kill herself. Now it is a race against time to save her. And Alec, understanding the truth about his and Lilith’s breakup, wants to rekindle the past. The question is, will they be able to come together to make their happy ending, or will the problems of the past continue to rear their ugly heads and keep true love apart?

It was unique the way the book switched between present and the past. The author tried to make these switches easy to discern by putting the times with the chapter numbers and titles. I only wish that this was more consistent. Sometimes, when chapters continued I feel like the placement of a timestamp would amp up the suspense and tension, letting us count down the minutes to the inevitable end. Perspective switches between Lilith and Alec, giving us both perspectives. The two distinct stories show two different sides of a complex relationship. Secrets are revealed, and we know the personal feelings of both the confessor and the confessed to. Full of description, detail, and exposition, a rather short and simple story is drawn out into a full novella. Certainly not a story lacking emotion, as each feeling and revelation is presented in expansive detail.

Jump dimensions. Find the bad guy. Don’t fall in love.

Nobody said being the daughter of an army general was easy. But when her dad sends a teenage subordinate to babysit her while he’s away? That’s taking it a step too far.

Cade, as beautiful as he is deadly, watches Kori with more than just interest. He looks at her like he knows her very soul. And when he saves her from a seemingly random attack, well, that’s when things get weird.

Turns out, Kori’s dad isn’t just an army general—he’s the head of a secret government project that has invented a way to travel between parallel dimensions. Dimensions where there are infinite Koris, infinite Cades…and apparently, on every other Earth, they’re madly in love.

Falling for a soldier is the last thing on Kori’s mind. Especially when she finds herself in a deadly crossfire, and someone from another Earth is hell-bent on revenge…

Omega (The Infinity Division, #2) by Jus Accardo

To be released on August 1st, 2017

One mistake can change everything. Ashlyn Calvert finds that out the hard way when a bad decision leads to the death of her best friend, Noah Anderson.

Only Noah isn’t really gone. Thanks to his parents’ company, the Infinity Division, there is a version of him skipping from one dimension to another, set on revenge for the death of his sister, Kori. When a chance encounter brings him face-to-face with Ash, he’s determined to resist the magnetic pull he’s felt for her time and time again. Because falling for Ash puts his mission—and their lives—in danger.

But there’s more going on in Ash’s alternate universe than either of them knows: a mysterious project called Omega. A conspiracy spanning multiple Earths and revolving around none other than Ash. Its creators would do anything to keep Omega secret…

Anything.

Review of Infinity
There is a theory that suggests the truth behind a phenomenon known as the multiverse.  The theory presumes that there are infinite realities, or universes, which are variations of the world that we know.  Since each universe progresses on its own, influenced by unique factors, they present different features.  For example, each universe would be at different stages of development, technology, landscapes, even cultural norms.  Yet, fundamentally, there are similarities.  Some even say there are multiple versions of us that exist across the various universes.  Of course, these theories lack any real scientific basis, and it is doubtful we will ever know for sure if there is indeed a multiverse.

This is the basic foundational premise behind Infinity.  Kori Anderson is an average girl who causes a bit too much trouble but otherwise is a normal high school student.  Her father is somewhat strict given that he is a military man, but she lives a safe and secure life.  Yet, what is a normal life ends up in chaos when she winds up the target of a murderer, Dylan, who is, in fact, a visitor from another earth.  Dylan wants to kill Kori to pay for the crimes of another universe—to punish the people who loved the Kori on the other earth, his earth, which a version of her existed, and to find her earth’s version of the woman he loved, Ava.  Dylan is followed by two men, Cade and Noah, who are determined to stop Dylan before he can kill anyone else on Kori’s world or another.  But Dylan is clever and puts Kori into a perilous situation: find the woman he loves or be shuttled through the multiverse and probably not survive.  The only light at the end of the tunnel is her burgeoning romance with Cade.

I love a book with a sound scientific basis, or rather one that is believable even if the science in a real sense doesn’t exist.  The author, Jus Accardo, gives a solid explanation of the technology used to send people from one earth to another but doesn’t convolute it. I really enjoyed Dylan’s rage.  A good book is always full of emotion, and characters that conflict with good reason and force.  It was also cute how Cade and Kori slowly developed feelings for one another, even if I was kind of troubled by the fact that Kori is a 17-year-old high school student.  The best parts of the book were the twists to the plot.  Just when there seemed to be a resolution in place, Accardo pitched the storyline on its head.  I really liked what happened when the group sought out Ava.  It was gasp inducing and made you fear that Kori wouldn’t be saved.

This book is good for young adult readers and beyond.  Infinity is an exciting sci-fi journey, using our familiar earth as the backdrop.  I look forward to pursuing the second book in the series since Infinity left us on a cliffhanger.  To know if Kori survives, you have to read the next novel, which I will certainly do.

About the Author

JUS ACCARDO spent her childhood reading and learning to cook. Determined to follow in her grandfather’s footsteps as a chef, she applied and was accepted to the Culinary Institute of America. A native New Yorker, she lives in the middle of nowhere with her husband, three dogs, and sometimes guard bear, Oswald.

Read below for an excerpt from the book:

“Maybe you used to be better at it?” I prodded. “I mean, you probably don’t get a lot of time to date while skipping all over creation, right? Maybe you’re just out of practice?”

“I’m not out of practice.” He seethed.

“It’s okay! It’s nothing to be ashamed of—”

For the second time since we’d met, he assaulted me. One second I was having the time of my life pushing his buttons—ridiculously easy to do—the next I was against the wall, Noah’s body covering mine. His lips moved furiously, scorchingly hot and with a level of passion I’d never felt before. His tongue slipped between my lips and despite having told other guys that I hated that, I melted, reveling in the millions of electrical tingles the action sent shooting through my body.

His hands gripped my head on either side. No roaming, no exploration. Somehow it made the whole thing hotter. Like he couldn’t bear to release me in fear that I’d move. That I’d get away and he’d have to stop.

And stop? No. That was a dirty word. A softly whispered sin in the darkest corners of the earth. Stopping this would be a crime of the highest caliber.

Except he did. Stop, that was.

He pulled away just far enough to look me in the eye, not yet letting go of my head. With an extremely satisfied tilt of his lip, he said, “Decent my ass.”

Rising Tide will sink its fangs into you, keeping you awake into the wee hours of the night

Could Maura's life get any worse? ...turns out it most certainly can.

Isolated and sheltered by her lonely mother, Maura's never been able to make friends. She seems to drive her classmates away—except for the odd times they pay enough attention to torture her—but she doesn’t understand why. Maura considers herself to be a freak of nature, with her unusually pale skin and an aversion to the sun that renders her violently nauseous. Her belief is only worsened by the fact that almost everyone around her keeps their distance.

Even her own father deserted her before she was born, leaving Maura alone with her emotionally distant mother, Caelyn. Even though Maura is desperate for answers about her unknown parent, Caelyn remains heartbroken and her daughter can’t bring herself to reopen her mother’s wounds. Or is there a more sinister reason Caelyn refuses to utter a word about her long-lost love?

When a cruel prank nearly claims Maura’s life, one of her classmates, Ron, rushes to her rescue. Darkly handsome & mysteriously accepting, Ron doesn’t seem to want to stay away, but Maura is reluctant to get too close, since her mother has announced she’s moving the two of them to Vancouver…nearly 3,000 miles away from their hometown of Indiana, Pennsylvania.

If life wasn’t already challenging enough, Maura begins to experience bizarre, physical changes her mother seems hell bent on ignoring, compelling Maura to fear for her own life. Vicious nightmares, blood cravings, failing health and the heart-shattering loss of Ron—as well as the discovery of a tangled web of her own mother's lies—become obstacles in Maura's desperate quest for the unfathomable truth she was never prepared to uncover.

Book Review

Maura (Maura) is a girl made to grow up faster than she should.  Her fairly strict mother keeps a close eye on her, especially after the “loss” of her father.  Maura never quite fits in, so she is excited when the popular kids begin to pay attention to her.  As it turns out, their attention was part of a cruel joke that leads to a head injury and a broken spirit.  Which lasts a short while, as she soon meets Ron: he is older, attractive, sweet, plays in a band, and instantly dotes on her.  Their romance is hard and fast, almost like an addiction.  The only regret Maura has is that she is moving at the end of the school year, relocating to Canada.  That is going to hamper the romance she has with Ron.  Yet that is the least of Maura’s worries.  She is going through changes that leave her scared and lost.  Always sensitive to the sun, she starts to crave meat and experiences a few physical changes that leave her an emerging beauty.  And to her alarm, she developed a set of canines that can do some serious damage.  Her mom tries everything to protect her from what is happening, hoping to convince Maura that she should stop worrying so much about what is happening.  But how can she not?

Maura was an instantly likable character—she was no victim, but still betrayed a vulnerability.  A high school outcast, but with spirit about her.  The development of Maura’s change is evenly paced, even though as a reader it is obvious what is happening to her.  I don’t understand how Maura, familiar with horror movies, didn’t at least think or consider, no matter how silly she thought it was, that she might be turning into a preternatural creature.  But who would?  I don’t think I would have thought I was changing into a monster if it were happening to me.  The whirlwind romance she was a part of was so cute, and I wanted so much for them to work out.  I was scared something would happen to take away the only thing that made her happy.  Since this book is part of a series, there is something to look forward to.  Maura’s story is, by no means, finished.  There was some resolution, enough to satisfy the reader at the end of the novel, but there are unanswered questions to compel a reader to further delve into the books.

Rising Tide was a good and excelling read.  It was dark, but not so much to be too much for a young adult reader.  Even an adult myself enjoyed the dark quality.  I would recommend it to people who like supernatural themed novels, definitely.

Excerpt #1

There was no shock strong enough to stop me then. Just a greedy, driving impulse pounding through every cell. I was hungry, and I wanted beyond all wants, to eat. A red film pervaded my eyes, turning the world crimson. My pulse screamed inside my head, exiling all other sound. And the boy’s blood called to me, drawing me down to my knees on the ground beside him.
“Maura!” From somewhere very far away, part of me acknowledged Ron’s voice. The reverberation was enough to draw me up, up, up from where I was, at present, drowning in gluttony at the taste of blood. Not quite enough though; I continued to lap at the side of the nameless boy’s head.
“MAURA!!” Ron’s voice was much more forceful then—a force to be reckoned with—and rife with shock. But he didn’t settle for shouting at me. I felt him behind me, hooking his hands under my shoulders and jerking me to my feet in an instant.
He whirled me around, roughly, and I found myself staring blankly into his face, trying to focus. “My god! What are you doing?!!” He was shouting at me, his face not an inch from mine, but I still couldn’t come around from my bloodhaze completely. I wanted to shove him away…violently…and reattach my mouth to the bloody wound at my feet.
“Stop! Leave me alone!” I fought against him until I saw Shane coming through the door after us. He stopped short and stared at me, his mouth gaping open with shock, fear in his eyes. Ron pushed him back inside, slamming the door in his face.
He turned his attention back to me and shook me forcefully. “Maura.” My name came out a rough whisper. “What’s wrong with you?!!”
He wiped the back of his right hand across my mouth. The left came up after to cover my mouth and nose, attempting to sweep away the bloody mess with his fingers. I heard from that small, not-in-control part of my mind again. A tiny voice wondering exactly what was happening. The part in control didn’t care about anything except his exquisite scent. He smelled better than the pizza, better than the boy’s blood… I struck at him, precipitously, like a viper. He narrowly avoided the sink of my teeth into his skin.
I had to give Ron credit; he only looked frightened for a moment. In the slice of an instant, he composed the look on his face, bravely took another spit-laden swipe at the corner of my mouth and jerked the door back open.
He hauled Shane out by the front of his shirt and then slammed the door shut—that time in Merina’s astonished face—once again.
Shane’s eyes slid toward me, then flicked quickly back to Ron’s face. They stayed there.
“Shane.” Ron said his name with calm and quiet. “This guy fell and hit his head.” He inclined his own toward the figure sprawling before us. “Maura was trying to help him by cleaning up the wound.” He said those words with such weight, as if he were burning them into Shane’s head with a branding iron. “You got that? She was helping him.” When Shane didn’t respond he shook him firmly, as he had me before. “Do you understand?”
Shane snapped out of the trance he’d seemed trapped in. He looked from Ron’s face to my own, blinked a couple of times and then nodded his head. He licked his lips before he spoke. “Yeah. Yeah, I‘ve got it.” He shook his head to clear it, and Ron released his grip on Shane’s shirtfront.
At that moment, my head snapped around to the left corner of the house at the sound of approaching footsteps. Caelyn glided into my view, as smooth as silk in her tight black-leather jacket. The expression on her face was enough to render my knees incapable of supporting my weight. I slid toward the ground, but Ron hauled me back up immediately. I tried to form words, but my vocal cords didn’t seem to be working. My head was starting to clear to the fact that Caelyn was going to kill me, slowly, painfully… I looked up to Ron, fully mindful he had no power to save me.

Excerpt #2

It was too late then… He was ringing the doorbell. He looked so much braver than I felt. I could see the anger that had crept back into him in the hard set of his lips, the flash in his dark eyes.
Caelyn had torn the door open immediately, anxiety all over her face. She looked at Ron, dumbfounded. She must have then caught sight of some part of me, because she instantly peered around his shoulder to find me standing meekly behind him, clad only in a boy’s shirt that just barely cleared my hips.
“Maura?! What the…” Her eyes fairly popped with dismayed astonishment.
“Hi, Mom.” What an asinine thing to say. I should have at least started with “I’m okay.”
Caelyn just stood there with her mouth hanging open. I felt the fear turn over, like a living thing in my stomach. How was I going to survive our confrontation? How could I even begin to explain everything that had happened that night?
Luckily, I had Ron. “Hi, um, Ms. DeLuca.” He started out sounding very shy, but as my mother’s brows furrowed closer together, he put a stronger edge to his voice. “I came to bring Maura home.” She was still scowling.
“Um…I’m Ron by the way.” He put his hand out to her. She ignored that entirely.
My mother’s glare was venomous. “Maura! Get in the house this instant!”
Oh boy… She thought Ron was at fault for whatever imagined atrocities were going through her brain right at the moment.
“Mom!” I was desperate to put everything right, despite how much trouble I knew I’d be in. “You have it all wrong!”
“I said GET IN THE HOUSE!” she screamed at me, absolute fury flying from her eyes. I’d never seen her so angry before, and I was terrified. “Do I need to ask you again?”
“N-n-no ma’am,” I stuttered. I hurried past Ron, but not without looking up at him with apology in my eyes. I felt horrible for his being put in the middle, just because he’d happened to save my life.
Once inside, I steeled myself for another attempt at speaking to my mother. “Mom, will you please just let me…”
“Don’t say anything, Maura.” Her voice shook. “Do you have any idea what you’ve put me through tonight?”
I was confused then. Did she want me to stay quiet or answer her question?
Ron saved me again. “I think I can explain.” He took a tentative step onto the living room carpet.
I didn’t like the way Caelyn’s head snapped around when she looked at him. “What was your name again?” she asked viciously.
I saw him swallow hard as he answered, “Ron.”
She turned on him then. “Well, Ron!” It sounded like she’d chewed on his name before spitting the one syllable out. “Do you mind telling me why it is you’re out with my daughter when she’s supposed to be with Katie Parker? And after you’ve answered that, I’d really love to know why you would bring her home wearing only that!!” She pointed the index finger of her shaking hand at me, standing on the plush blue carpet next to our couch, holding onto its arm for support, my knees knocking together.
Ron went a little pale… I couldn’t stand to see my hero wrongly accused.
“Mom! Listen to me! If-if it weren’t for him, for Ron…Mom, I’d be dead right now!” I shouted all the words out quickly before she had a chance to silence me again.

Book Review & Giveaway: In the Beginning by Dr. Leviticus Wayne

Sci Fi/Space Opera
Date Published: Releasing Sept 5th 2017

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

The origins of Judeo-Christian religion and mythology come together in this mature science fiction page-turner.
To combat overpopulation on the planet Orion, the government releases a birth control virus to keep women from becoming pregnant. Only the brightest and most attractive of their species are allowed to mate. But the virus rages out of control, killing both mother and child. Attempts to develop a cure fail. They only have one option left: search other worlds for advanced societies that may be able to help.
The two most intelligent minds on Orion—and former best friends—Lucifer and Zues band together to search for a secret planet. When they finally arrive, they are greeted with unexplainable death and destruction. This planet is not the answer. Something doesn’t add up. They discover an extra unknown planet in the solar system.
The new planet is covered in lush land masses and bodies of water. Different species of hominids run—and mate—freely. Fire-breathing dragons guard the land. Lucifer is determined to figure out who or what created this planet. He thinks it just might be the key to saving Orion and the Orionites.

Review of In the Beginning

Orion is a world far away, and it is dying.  Its populace is plagued by a terrible malady called BCV that has made it difficult, almost impossible, to produce viable life.  Without birth, a world cannot continue.  And so they must look elsewhere for the technology necessary to save their planet from extinction.

The characters are named, amusingly enough, after an assorted mix of Gods from around the world.  The leader of Orion is Osiris.  His top military commander is Zeus.  Archangels, gods, goddesses alike are part of the cast.  It is interesting the way that they are mashed together, though I think an opportunity was missed to make each character a little more like their respective mythological counterparts.  There should be something recognizably “underworld” about Osiris, and Zeus should be a bit of a player.  I’m just a sucker for mythology and for the complexity of the balance between the good and the bad.  Lucifer is the father of lies, the fallen light of God who rebelled against Heaven, and Abadon is the Angel of Death.  I mean, Abadon is “a fire that consumes to destruction” (Job 31:12).  If that’s not cool and heck for a novel character, I don’t know what is.  I sincerely do think including these characterizations would have made the novel infinitely better.

As the story goes, women carrying children would be dispersed to planets around the galaxy, each one capable of supporting life, so that they may have a chance to give birth to a child without the threat of contracting their planet’s ailment.  To do this they need the help of none other than Lucifer.
The collective of various deity-inspired characters travel through space to a planet Terra Firma, which they determine to be, in fact, artificial.  Though there are several human life creatures (really more like early pre-man man), there are also monsters that breathe fire and make settling very dangerous.  When the Orionites get to Terra Firma, they can’t seem to help but fulfill their raging libidos.  I was concerned for poor Lilith and her bleeding lady parts.  A hybrid species must, however, be avoided.  Except creating a hybrid species is exactly what happened.  Yet a bigger crisis looms that threatens the planet of Orion even further, making Terra Forma of infinite greater necessity.  How will “gods” from outer space, essentially, adapt to a new world and live amongst the more primitive and yet advanced people of this manufactured world?  Anger divides and a new species promises to recreate the world, and it is more recognizable in origins to what we have read in countless religious texts, and I like that the ending set the stage for the many creation myths that we know so well.  Very, very pleased with how the novel rounded out and finished.  It was passionate and compelling.

About the Author

Review of The Duchess Quest
Eludaine, known as Dainy, princess of Jordinia was lost to her empire when a revolt overthrew her family.  She was secreted away to live in obscurity, not even aware of her own royal lineage.  When her uncle Hessian Gatspierre, in exile, learns that she is still alive, he sets out a quest complete with gold reward and promise of marriage, to any man who seeks and finds her to return her to her remaining family.  A collection of men start out, but it ends with a few essential characters: Marley Macmillian (Mac), Bos, and Jon Cosmith.  Mac is quiet, gentle and stubborn.  Bos loyal, tender for a man as big as he.  Jon Cosmith is your typical rogue character: bold, brash, slightly immoral, and selfish.

Jon is at first only interested in the money.  He doesn’t want a wife.  Why would a man who loves drinking and wooing ladies want to settle down to have a family.  Of course, despite this, he has to try to seduce innocent Dainy.  Mac and Bos try their hardest to keep the two of them apart and to convince Dainy of Jon’s less than pure intentions.  Both Jon and Dainy even share a few passionate moments, but it is hard for Jon to reconcile his roguishness with his developing feelings for Dainy that just might prove to be true.

Dainy needs all the help she can get from as many friendly people as possible, including the wandering female thief Selu.  As it turns out, more than just the assassins of the crown that usurped her family wants to do her harm.  In fact, some of the people closest to her want to betray her for her own gain.

The Duchess Quest created a world separate from our own, and I always like a good fantasy take on the traditional.  Dainy was a cute character, naive but strong at her core.  What I liked so much about the book is that it didn’t take the turn that I thought it would regarding the romance.  I thought for sure that Dainy was going to end up fitting a formulaic model for romance and eventual partnership.  It caught me by surprise to see the end.  There are even a few exciting twists at the end when you find out a few hidden secrets and plots.  Since this novel is part of a series, not all answers were given.  A lot of questions remain to compel someone to read the next novel.  After all, does Dainy ascend to the throne?  I will certainly look for the other novels to find out.

Release Blitz, Review & Giveaway: TS901 by Stacey Rourke & Tish Thawker

Title: TS901: Anomaly Rise of the Rebels
Series: The TS901 Chronicles
Author: Stacey Rourke & Tish Thawer
Genre: NA Fantasy Dystopian
Release Date: August 1, 2017
On Sale for 99 Pennies

Tainted water for the good of the people. Fluoride and vitamins to sustain the health of the human race. Added ingredients to extend and elevate the quality of life. All good things, right?

Wrong.

Thia Kelly has been changed by the TS901 chemical in the world’s water supply. Now, forced into hiding with the other inflicted outcasts, she struggles to survive as her powers emerge.

Evan Daniels hunted for others like himself, and finding Thia suddenly brought meaning back into his life. Love blossomed between the strange couple while they searched for a way to reverse the effects. Unfortunately, the Government had something else in mind.

Super-soldier creation on a mass scale was their end goal, and thanks to an unfortunate family tie, Evan became Patient #1.

Good-guy? Bad-guy? The world isn’t sure, but Thia is left with only one choice––save the ass of the world’s first Anomaly who just happens to be her boyfriend.

Thia is part of an unfortunate group of people infected by the water distributed TS901.  The concoction, which was intended to help, hurt many people, turning them into anomalies (Malys), who are at odds with the "normal" people, the Narys.  The abnormalities suffered range from physical deformities to "powers" like mind control, sonic voice, and rapid healing.  Because of their differences, the Malyies are segregated into a dilapidated old subway station, always one misstep away from being labeled a dangerous presence and harmed.

Thia is careful to hide her abnormality.  She passes for normal so much that she acts as a liaison between the Malie and Nary worlds.  But when she learns her boyfriend Evan, whose father is a powerful man using his son to push forth an agenda that Evan hopes will bridge the divide between the two opposing sides, Thia springs into action.  She employs the help of a haphazard group.  There is Eugene, who spends too much time drunk but really just misses his family.  Eugene has a sonic boom voice.  Then there is Gigi, a beautiful scientist with evolving powers.  These powers let her control minds and create illusions.  These do provide very useful modes of trickery when the group infiltrated the "Hill," a secure base, to rescue Evan.  The group is accompanied, though not on purpose, by a Nary named Lance.  Initially, he is part of the border guard that keeps the peace between the Malies and the Narys, but he betrays his station when he goes rogue to rescue his mother from the military men at the Hill.  But it turns into more than a rescue mission, but rather a race to avoid war between the Malies and the Narys.

I loved the pace of TS901.  There is a ton of action-- you run the story through your mind like a movie as it plays out because that is exactly how the story reads. I also thought that the concept was very unique.  The basic plot of mutation and genetic segregation has been done a lot, but TS901 is refreshing and new because the world in which our characters are placed is unique and well thought out.  It bears mentioning that every character is fleshed out and fully developed-- they seem realistic and therefore believable.  The suffering of the characters is almost palpable, and you root for each and every one to have a happy ending.  I think this novel fits nicely within the dystopia genre.  Long live the revolution.
